OWHA Return to Hockey - February 9th, 2021
Attention OWHA Members,
Please refer to the following link for information on the Public Health Units Re-Opening Timeframe.
COVID-19 public health measures and restrictions | COVID-19 (coronavirus) in Ontario
Regions are returning to the COVID-19 response framework
It is anticipated that public health unit regions will return to the framework on the dates noted in the link. These dates may change depending on the trends in public health indicators.
Until your region returns to the framework, the shutdown and stay-at-home orders still apply in your area.
OWHA Return to Hockey Update:
We will be reviewing the updated materials, including the regulations and any adjustments to the colour coded system when details are released. The OWHA is committed to working with our Members to provide sanctioned hockey programs that meet all requirements, and any adjustments will be posted on our web site.
We do not expect any return to traditional hockey in the near future. However, there are opportunities in some areas of the province for physical distanced individual training and also some modified hockey. There are requirements and restrictions to these activities, and we refer you to the protocols and documents on our web site at www.owha.on.ca
NOTE: At this time, we do expect the OWHA Extended Groups to be limited to a maximum of 50 players with each player being limited to participation in only 1 Extended Group. OWHA Members may continue with the Extended Group that was in place prior to the Ontario lockdown or may adjust the participants within an Extended Group. It is important to note that, when an OWHA program resumes following this provincial Lockdown, a player who participates in an Extended MUST remain in the Extended Group and may not be part of any other Extended Group.
Return to Hockey Applications:
If your association has received prior approval for hockey related activities and bubble groups, you do not need to resubmit for approval for your event. If the types of activities and the teams within your bubbles change, you MUST re-submit your application with the updated information for approval.
If your association has not received approval for hockey related activities and bubble groups, you must submit an application outlining the types of activity you will be doing as well as all the teams that will be in your bubble groups. You must have written approval from the OWHA before you can resume activities. All OWHA and Government guidelines must be followed.
Kind Regards,
