Midget AA Finalists at 2018 Stoney Creek Showcase
Hamilton, ON, September 9, 2018.

This past weekend, 64 Midget AA teams from across North America came
together to compete in the annual Stoney Creek Girls Hockey Association
Midget AA Showcase Tournament held over three days in Hamilton, ON. The
U18 all-girls event is hosted each year in the Fall to showcase the best
of the best in girls hockey and to crown a champion. Teams from
Dallas, TX, Anahaim, CA and elsewhere in the United States and across
Canada brought in their top talent and the Burlington Girls Hockey Club (Barracudas) showed up ready to compete.

Going undefeated in 6 games over three days, the Barracudas were able to
net 24 goals while only allowing one goal. The girls determination and
hard work earned them a spot in the Gold Medal game against the host
team, the Stoney Creek Sabres.

The showdown would prove to be an exciting game that would keep spectators hanging on until the very final seconds of the game.
The Sabres opened up the scoring early in the game but Burlington quickly
responded with a goal by Hayden Serniuk, assisted by Kate Lengyel to tie
the game up. It wasn't long before Stoney Creek took the lead again only to have
Burlington score once more with a give and go goal by Leah MacSween, assisted by
Elizabeth Gauthier.

As the end of the game was approaching, coaches were planning lines and tactics for overtime. But with only 5 seconds left on the clock, The Sabres found a way to end the match with an impressive shot past the Barracudas goalie. The Barracudas would have to settlefor silver medals.....This year!

The Barracudas summed up an impressive pre-season tournament earning the
title of "FINALISTS" at one of North Americas most prestigious U16 girls
hockey tournaments of the year.

Congratulations to Burlington's Leah MacSween who earned the overall
scoring title and MVP.

Congratulations to the Burlington Barracudas Midget AA team for their tremendous accomplishment.
